Frank Mitchell

Statement

I started drawing and painting (in oils and acrylics) in the early 80’s while working as an economist based in Washington DC. Making art in spare time was so fulfilling that I have continued since retiring back to Metchosin in 1992. My challenge is to make pictures that interest me. Subjects include portraits (including annual self portraits, family members, animals), records of interesting incidents, political pieces in response to events that move me, and landscapes, including views from rooms where I have slept. Most current works are small plein air landscapes. While my motivation remains the challenge/joy of making paintings, I’m happy if some some pictures find good homes.
